2010 NFL Predictions- Week 17

Hard to believe it, but this is it for the regular season. The NFL year really flies by. Last week was 8-8 and 10-6 to move to 136-104 and 116-124 on the year. Last year was 166-90 straight up and I think the parity of this season has really contributed to the poor record this year. Who knows what to expect in week 17 with teams resting guys or simply not caring anymore.

FALCONS (-14.5) over Panthers- The nightmare season for John Fox comes to an end with a very rough go of it in Atlanta where the Falcons need a win to secure the division title. Falcons 31 Panthers 13

Bengals (+9.5) over RAVENS- Ravens still have an outside chance at the 2 seed but most likely will be the 5 seed. Bengals have had the Ravens number of late, but expect Baltimore to get a measure of payback in what should be either Marvin Lewis’ or Carson Palmer’s final game as a Bengal. Ravens 26 Bengals 20

BROWNS (+6.5) over Steelers- If Cleveland had any offense at all they would have had a chance at the playoffs this year. Somehow the defense gets the job done despite what seems like a poor talent level. Steelers clinch with a win. Steelers 19 Browns 13

Vikings (+6.5) over LIONS- Detroit has something going on right now to close the season and there is going to be tremendous pressure on Matt Stafford next year as the Lions with Shaun Hill are playing good enough that they will be a trendy wildcard pick next season. Vikes playing on Tuesday scares me but they showed last week that they have not quit yet. Lions 23 Vikings 19

CHIEFS (-4.5) over Raiders- Chiefs are scary good at home and could surprise in round 1 if they play to that level. Oakland has had a far better year than I ever thought they would, but if Kansas City plays to win they should win going away. Chiefs 28 Raiders 14

PATRIOTS (-3.5) over Dolphins- The question most will ask is how long do the Pats starters play especially since they lost WR Wes Welker last year in a similar situation, but after back to back losses to the Bills and Lions I think the bigger question is if the Dolphins even show up at all. Patriots 27 Dolphins 17

Buccaneers (+7.5) over SAINTS- Does Tampa have enough to take out the Saints this week? Probably not but they play well on the road and the Saints are not strong at home this season so it should be close. Saints 19 Buccaneers 16

JETS (-3.5) over Bills Buffalo may be down to their backup QB for this game and the Jets will at least be playing hard for awhile in their last home game of the season. Jets 23 Bills 16

Chargers (-3.5) over BRONCOS- Another tough game to call because who knows what the Chargers state of mind is right now. Denver had been energized by the insertion of QB Tim Tebow into the starting lineup while San Diego pulled up lame again on the road last week. The numbers say Chargers close so Ill go with it. Chargers 31 Broncos 27

PACKERS (-5.5) over Bears- Green Bay fans are going to look back on some of those upset losses this year with regret. If they had home field they would be the favorite in the NFC. As it is they are very dangerous. Packers 27 Bears 16

TEXANS (+2.5) over Jaguars- Second year in a row that Jacksonville had control of their own destiny and could not get out of their own way. Close game so take the points. Jaguars 27 Texans 26

Titans (+9.5) over COLTS- This is the Titans Super Bowl and they will play this game very hard. Would not be a stunner if there was an upset here either. Colts 24 Titans 21

Cowboys (+11.5) over EAGLES - Eagles are not as strong a home team as people think. No Vick in this one and the Cowboys backup should do ok enough to keep the game close. Eagles 24 Cowboys 21 49’ERS (-6.5) over Cardinals- Smart move by the owner to let the head coach go rather than have him end the season with a win over Arizona and make people question letting him go. 49’ers 27 Cardinals 13

Giants (-4.5) over REDSKINS- Too little too late for the Giants. Will it be too late for Tom Coughlin? That’s a big question. Giants 27 Redskins 20

SEAHAWKS (+2.5) over Rams- I really want the Rams to win this game, but Seattle plays so much better at home and in prime time this may be too much atmosphere for the young Rams team. Seahawks 24 Rams 20
