NFL Predictions- Week 2
Not too great or too terrible last week. 10-6 straight up and 9-7 against the sportsline spread. Lets see how things go this week.
Saints (+0.5) over REDSKINS - Washington looked inept on both sides of the football against the Giants in their opener last week. Had the Giants not run out of gas they would have lost that game by 35 points. Jim Zorn looks to be in over his head while the Saints want to keep their momentum headed in the right direction. Saints 24 Redskins 16
JAGUARS(-5.5) over Bills - Buffalo is coming off a very impressive win while the Jaguars are licking their wounds off a terrible showing in Tennessee. Jacksonville has problems with the interior of their line, but the Bills always have problems away from their home stadium. Its hard to picture the Bills scoring many points on offense and Jacksonville has to be prepared for the special teams play of the Bills. If Jacksonville loses this week they could be in for a long season. Jaguars 23 Bills 7
Raiders(+3.5) over CHIEFS - Last week it was Atlanta vs Detroit in the least intriguing game of the week and this week two of the worst in the NFL lock horns at Arrowhead stadium. Oakland was embarrassed Monday night by Denver, while Kansas City looked inept losing to the Matt Cassel led Patriots last week. Damon Huard is an upgrade over the fragile Brodie Croyle and better than Jamarcus Russell, so expect the team to win, but it usually take a miracle for a Herman Edwards coached team to win by more than a field goal. Chiefs 16 Raiders 13
Titans(+1.5) over BENGALS - The performance by the Bengals in Baltimore last week was a disgrace and while normally you might expect a big bounceback the following week I would be worried about the psyche of the team as those types of games go way back to last year. Tennessee will play the type of physical defense that the Bengals can not handle and Kerry Collins is an upgrade for the team at the QB position. Titans 24 Bengals 20
Colts(-1.5) over VIKINGS - Neither team looked very good last week, but Iím willing to give the Colts a pass for one week since they had no work in the preseason. If they lose here itís a big red flag that Manning isnít close to right. Minnesota played totally undisciplined in Green Bay and could have a tough time containing the Colt receivers on a fast track. Unless Adrian Peterson can run for 200 they cant score enough points to win this game. Colts 23 Vikings 13
Giants(-8.5) over RAMS - St. Louis is a lost team right now. The offensive line is a mess and they play no defense at all. The players dont believe in the coach and the holdout of Steven Jackson has him still playing catch-up. This line may be a little high, but itís hard to imagine Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer not carving the Rams up. Giants 30 Rams 7.
PANTHERS(-3.5) over Bears - Both teams are coming off huge upsets wins on the road last week. Chicago ran all over the Colts while the Panthers stunned the Chargers on the last play of the football game. Both teams play a physical style of football, but Carolina has more talent and played a more impressive team last week. Chicago playing back to backs away from home should slide the advantage towards Carolina this week. Panthers 19 Bears 14
LIONS(+2.5) over Packers - Detroit is a miserable team, but they should not be underdogs to the Aaron Rodgers led Packers on their home turf. The Detroit splits between home and away last year were drastic and its likely they play the same way this season as well. Minnesota has players open all game against the Packers, they either couldnít catch the ball or the QB couldnít get it to them. Jon Kitna, Roy Williams, and Calvin Johnson wonít let the Packers off the hook that easily in what could be a shootout type of game. Packers 33 Lions 31
49ers (+8.5) over SEAHAWKS - The 49ers offense looked lost last week, but the Seahawks did not fare much better. Seattles wide receiving corps. is simply decimated by injuries right now and there is nobody to run the football for them nor a line for anyone to run behind. San Francisco doesnít look to have Martzí offense down yet, but could manage enough to cover the spread. Seahawks 13 49ers 6.
BUCCANEERS(-8.5) over Falcons - Itís one thing to beat up on the terrible Lions in your own stadium and another thing to go into a hostile environment against a pretty good defense and even be competitive. Both Michael Turner and Matt Ryan will fall way back to the pack this week against a suffocating Tampa defense. Tampa may be searching for a QB this week, but even without Garcia should score enough between their offense and defense to win going away. Buccaneers 20 Falcons 7
JETS(-2.5) over Patriots - Alot of teams are going to be lining up to run up the score on the Matt Cassel led Patriots if they can and the Jets get the first crack at it. New England has tortured the Jets for 7 seasons now and the Jets finally get their revenge on their rivals. Belichick will cement his legacy if he gets this team to finish around .500 this year. Jets 24 Patriots 10
BRONCOS(+2.5) over Chargers - Denver has been a hard team to figure out the last few seasons. They are often terrible home favorites, and poor favorites in general, typically playing down to their competition and hoping to get by, but maybe something has changed this year as evidenced by their 27 point shellacking of the Oakland Raiders. The team has the weapons and the best young QB in the game if they get everyone on the same page to do damage in the AFC. San Diego didnt look right in a loss to Carolina and could be in for an early season swoon like last year under coach Norv Turner. Chargers always have a tough time in Denver and will lose outright this week. Broncos 27 Chargers 24.
Dolphins(+6.5) over CARDINALS - Arizona is coming off a nice little win against the 49ers and looks to go 2-0 for the first time in well over 15 years against the Miami Dolphins. Miami did a good job of holding the Jets passing game in check last week and Chad Pennington manages the games well enough to cover a 6.5 point spread. Miami was a competitive road team for a good portion of 2007 and I wouldnít trust the Cardinals as a favorite this high just yet. Cardinals 24 Dolphins 20
Texans(-4.5) over Ravens - Baltimore is simply hideous away from home while the Texans have become a pretty good team when they get the chance to play in Houston. Houston was embarrassed last weekend in Pittsburgh and is going to come out hungry and take their frustration out on the Ravens. Wont even be close. Texans 30 Ravens 13
Steelers(-5.5) over BROWNS - Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers have been a totally different team away from home in recent years, but usually pour on the points against crummy defensive teams and there are few worse than the Browns. The last time the Steelers lost in Cleveland was in 2000 and most of their contests have not even been close since the arrival of Roethlisberger. Everyone officially jumps off the Browns bandwagon this week. Steelers 35 Browns 13
Eagles(+6.5) over COWBOYS - Great early season game between two teams that really despise each other. Both teams had their way with their opponents in week 1 and look to take hold of the division in week 2. Eagles always seem to play well against the Cowboys no matter what the records are and the Cowboys players seem to press too much in these games. Andy Reid has the decided coaching edge which seals the result. Eagles 23 Cowboys 20
