New York Jets Salary Cap Page

Strength of Victory Tiebreaker

Here are the current standings for the Strength of Victory Tiebreaker. For this to be applicable bot the Jets and Bengals would need to finish at 10-6. At 9-7 other teams could be in play. If that scenario is possible next week I will work something out on those tiebreakers, however at 10-6 the SOV tiebreaker will be in play between these two teams. Locked in Wins are games that are guaranteed to give a win (of course this assumes no ties). For example the Colts play the Jaguars, both of whom were beaten by the Bengals. Who wins is unimportant. The Bengals are credited with a win either way. Max wins are calculated by determining what happens if all the teams not locked in win out.

Strength of Victory Standings

Teams of Major Importance:

Steelers: A win vs Browns takes 2 wins away; a win vs Rams takes a win away. If Steelers in out max total is 62.

49'ers: A win vs Seahawks takes a win away as does a win against Rams. Winning out the max total becomes 63.

Dolphins: A win against NE gives the Jets 2 additional wins

Bills: Both teams beat the Bills, however the Jets beat the Bills twice meaning their wins count double for the Jets. For every Bill win the Jets extend their lead by 1 game. The Bills play the Broncos and Patriots.

Jaguars: Both the Jets and Bengals beat the Jaguars, however everyone the Jaguars play has also been beaten by the Bengals. This means the net result is guaranteed for the Bengals (2 wins) , but not the Jets. If the Jaguars win those game the Jets maintain their current lead over the Bengals. If they lose those two games the Bengals are guaranteed to close the gap by two.

Bengals wont win out regardless. Their next two games are tough and it looks like Baltimore will be playing for the division. I think the highest likelyhood is that the Jets lose to the Giants and beat Miami. The question is how much needs to go our way to get in at 9-7

Kev- At 9-7 the Jets will not win a tiebreaker against the Titans due to common opponents so they would need Tennessee to lose one of the next two games...They also need to make sure Cincy slips up against the Ravens if they are to go 1-1....Oakland and Denver would have a tiebreaker as well but I have a hard time seeing both teams being there at 9-7. 1 yes, 2 no.

Bengals fan here. I don't enjoy your team, but I do enjoy your analysis ;)

You correctly have the Dolphins listed twice as teams the Jets have beaten (based on your win-out scenario). However, you incorrectly have them listed with four wins in one listing and five wins in the other listing. I'd be interested in knowing what happens if the Jets and Bengals both go 1-1, with the Jets losing to the Dolphins, Bengals losing to Ravens. Dolphins should not be overlooked as a gimme. I'm sure it would depend on the other AFC contenders as well.
